He began racing go-karts and quarter-midgets at age 5. In 1979 and 1981 he was the quarter-midget national champion. In 1990 he won the 1990 USAC midget championship. Jeff Gordon In 1992 on the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division circuit he won a record 11 poles. In 1992 he made his NASCAR Winston Cup Series debut at Atlanta, qualifying 21st and finishing 31st.
